What is an Axolotl?

Ambystoma Mexicanum, also known as the Mexican Walking Fish or Axolotl is a Neotenic Salamander related to the Tiger Salamander. The species was originally found in the Mexican lake "Lake Xochimilco". Axolotls are unique among other amphibians due to the fact they reach adulthood without morphing.  Instead of developing lungs and living on land, adults remain aquatic and gilled. Axolotls are currently critically endangered, with a decreasing wild population. Don't worry! All of our Axolotls are captive bred.
